On
Friday, March 17th I went to Rock on the Range for the first time
ever. It is a huge rock concert that plays some of the big name rock bands. All
you see when you get there is a bunch of people drinking alcohol and some wild,
crazy people. You can hear the sound of loud music blaring from the outside of
Columbus Crew stadium.
We were
hanging out in the parking lot for a while, this is where I met some
interesting characters, and two of them were my boyfriends Tyler’s friends from
high school. These were the redneck boys drinking away and bragging about their
trucks. The next group of people where a girl and guy from Illinois who were
beyond drunk, the guy was in his own little world and the girl who had pink
hair kept telling me “You’re so pretty.”
She would tell Tyler “You know that
you have a super pretty girlfriend?” needless to say it was all from a drunken
stupor.
We all went inside to listen to
some bands, these bands were Hollywood Undead, Buckcherry and Korn. These
happen to be some of my favorite bands. When Korn came on stage the ambiance
changed and everyone went crazy. We ended up rocking out the whole night till
about midnight. We went home and rested up for the day.
That Saturday we were back at it
again driving down state route 71 to Crew Stadium, this day we got stuck in a
bunch of traffic, we didn't get to hang out with anyone that we had met with
the previous day. We went straight inside and sat down for a bit. That day was
loaded with good bands such as, Hale Storm, Papa Roach, and Smashing Pumpkins.
Every single band that played that day was loud and full of energy.
I loved being able to sit there and
watch everyone down in the bull pit, which is the main floor closest to the
stage. You could see nothing but people crowd surfing, throwing plastic bottles
around, and lastly people moshing. You would occasionally see people get
carried away on stretchers, from getting hurt by either being in the mosh pit
or getting dropped while crowd surfing.
That night the headlining band was
Smashing pumpkins, they are normally a good band. When it was time for them to
start playing everyone thought they were awful. They had the speakers all
messed up, all you could hear was back feed, you also couldn't hear anything
that they were singing. We ended up heading home early that night about 11
o’clock and were getting ready to head back for another day of craziness.
The next day we all got up at about
7 o’clock the next morning to get ready and beat the traffic. We got there
super early and this is when the fun truly began for me at Rock on the
Range. We had hung out with the same
group of people as before, goofing off in the parking lot and cooking out for a
good couple of hours. I was watching everyone else around me get drunk, Tyler
and I were laughing at everyone. His best friend Ben who is a pretty big boy
was drunk as he could possibly be. He kept saying “Watch me chug this beer!”
and “Oh let’s play another game of beer pong.”
It got comical really fast,
everyone around was having a good time. By the time we were done hanging out we
decided that we would go inside and watch some bands. This day was going to be
super exciting for me because my favorite band In This Moment was going to play
today and we had ended up getting some killer seats on the main stage.
We walked in and were watching some
of the main stage bands such as another couple of my favorites Volbeat, Skillet
and Bush. Right between Volbeat and Skillet, In This Moment was getting ready
to come on at the Pabst Blue Ribbon stage right beside the main stage. We had
went running over there. I had told everyone that day that I was going to go
crowd surfing. No one believed that I would, and honestly after watching a
bunch of people get dropped I was a little bit skeptical.
We had stood there and got the best
spot that we could and waited for them to start playing I decided that I was
going to go crowd surfing during my favorite song Blood.
The band started to play and I was
getting pumped up. They started to play some of the other song that I like such
as, Adrenalize, Whore, and the Beast Within. They eventually
started to play Blood, It was at the
start of the song and Tyler kept asking me “Are you sure that you want to go
crowd surfing?”
I kept looking up and was worried
but then I decided to go for it. I told Tyler and our friend Bryan to hoist me
up, so they did. It was the most fun I've ever had in my life I made it the
whole way on my back without getting flipped or dropped. I eventually was
brought up front to the security that was helping people down. I walked back
trying to find Tyler and Bryan again, but during the process this guy who I
stopped in front of looked down and said “Want up?”
I smiled, I said “Hell ya!”
He lifted my up by my armpits and rocketed me
onto everyone in front of us. This time I didn't make it on my back I was
flipped and turned. By the time I had gotten back down the second time and saw
Tyler and Bryan, I was tore apart from people grabbing at me and flipping me.
We ended up going and sitting back down watching the main stage bands for the
night and went home again this time it was to rest up from the insane weekend
that we had.
